The New Constitutional Charta of the Church of Cyprus

By Costas Katsaros & Achilles Emilianides

01 January 2013

The Faculty of Law of the University of Nicosia in collaboration with the Cyprus Institute of Church-State relations organized on June 3, 2011 scientific conference on "The New Charter of the Church of Cyprus." The conference was the first (and so far only) integrated assessment of the provisions of the new Constitution of the Church of Cyprus. It is undeniable that the adoption of a new Constitution of the Church of Cyprus is a historic event, which is of great legal, political and religious interest.
The scope of the current book was to publish the proceedings of the forementioned conference. Unfortunately, the Director of the Central Ecclesiastical Fund and Assurance Ioannis Charilaou, former Attorney General Alecos Markides and Professor at the Democritus University of Thrace Pitsakis Constantine, who had participated with speeches at the Conference, did not send their speeches in time and therefore they could not be included in this edition. However, later was added an article one of the editors, Konstantinos Katsaros about the attempted conciliation and spiritual dissolution of marriage, as well as an introduction to the Charter by the other editor Achilles Emilianides.
